Ep. 3 - A Day in My Life (Blog Edition) // TGIF!!!
As much as I love content creation, I don’t think I will ever cut out to leave my stable eight-to-five job. It may sound a little unusual, but my traditional office job has been one of the vital parts that keep my life steady. Please note that I’m not only talking about how important it is to pay the bill—I see my job as something to keep me balanced mentally. You could say that it keeps me grounded in a way.
But see, having a continuous routine can be tricky as it might play a huge part in feeling less romantic about life. And I don't want to feel less romantic! As a self-reminder to celebrate another ordinary working day in my life, here I present to you the third episode of A Day in My Life series: "Thank God It's Friday!!!".
*
Well, who's going to congratulate me now? I only hit the button once that Friday—though I won't lie, the thought of curating this post might have played a major part since it occurred when I was about to hit the second snooze. I realized I owed it to you to have a cooler start to the day, so I stopped procrastinating and went off to the kitchen to prepare my breakfast.
Again, let me remind you that it was Friday, the freaking fifth day of the week. I supposed it was natural to run out of fruit since I had spent the previous four days packing as much fruit as my breakfast box allowed me to. After cutting two tomatoes and one banana, I went to my room to be creative (and by ‘creative’, I mean going through my snack storage to find something else to bring).
Lucky, lucky me. I found some Indonesian snacks called telur gabus with sesame seeds and a small package of teng-teng peanuts. I put them in two separate boxes while convincing myself that it was okay to start the day with something sweet for once.
You might be wondering, why the hesitancy? Lately, after I’ve been so used to eating healthy for breakfast, it’s hard not to feel guilty every time I do the contrary. It’s like there is this gnawing voice in my head, telling me that I’m not being responsible to my body if I eat a candy bar or two. I know it’s stupid. I know it’s weird. I will just treat it as a brake so my breakfast wheel won’t spin out of control.
After packing my breakfast, it was time for me to get ready. I showered, did my skincare and hair, and walked to the bus station.
It was still relatively empty in the bus—being quite this early eliminated the potential to jostle against the other commuters. I stood beside the bus door because it took me only two stops to arrive at my office. I consider this a huge privilege to be able to live not far from where I work.
Now is the time to do some fit checks!
I wore a brown checkered long-sleeve shirt and a pair of high-waisted black pants (it’s how to look taller 101!!!). My rose quartz bead bracelet was something I would never not wear. I also changed into my flat shoes once I arrived at my cubicle.
(For your information, I always wear a short/long-sleeve shirt and some formal pants to the office because I prefer my outfit to be as effortless as possible.)
Later, I did what I had to do in the office: I started my day by eating the packed brekkie. I then went to the pantry to wash the dishes. At 8 a.m., I began to work like a human who needed to eat.
It was time to work, work, work, work, work—hey Siri, please play Work by Rihanna!
A few hours after that, it was time for lunch, lunch, lunch, lunch, lunch.
I didn’t feel like eating rice that afternoon, so I only ordered some dory fish with tartar sauce, omelet, garlic potato, onion ring, and a bowl of creamy mushroom soup. Everything tasted UH-mazing!!
After lunchtime, some more hours of working and meetings were inevitable. I had some projects I needed to catch up on, so the time went by rather quickly. At 4 p.m., I snacked on some fruit I had bought earlier from the office cafeteria.
Unlike the other ordinary Fridays, my colleagues and I didn’t go back home once the clock hit 5 p.m. that day. We went to a nearby restaurant called Gandy Steak House & Bakery to celebrate our manager’s birthday. Dinner was on him.
Upon entering the restaurant, my mind automatically noted how it evoked this ambiance of a timeless dining experience. There was a grand piano and an organ on the left side of our reserved table for a live music session. I would love to revisit this place even if only for the classic, cozy vibes.
Following what our manager had ordered, most of us chose the Australian prime sirloin steak with mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. While waiting, the waiter served each of us welcome bread that came with a small pack of Anchor salted butter (you know nothing goes wrong with Anchor butter, right?).
For dessert, we shared a plate of hot chocolate Nutella brownies. The ice cream on top melted perfectly on the hot brownies. It was finger-licking good. Yum.
Well, dinner was satisfying. I then went to my flat to change into a shirt and a pair of jeans before going to the train station. Finally, it was time to board the train to my hometown for the weekend. I missed my bed so so so much.
Once I got home, I not only took a shower (and cleaned my stuff), but I also took a couple of pictures while drying my wet hair (just because I felt like it). I mean, feeling clean makes everything feel super nice. And it boosts my mood too! I don't think I can enjoy a good night's sleep if I feel dirty with unshowered sweat.
With that said, I did enjoy my good night's sleep after completely drying my hair. It had been an exciting and tiring day after all. See you guys on another post.
