Our First Dine-Out Date and Forever Faves: Claypot Popo

When I told my boyfriend I wanted to write a food-recommendation post, he encouraged me to share our mutual love for the dishes served in claypots at a Chinese eatery called Claypot Popo. I welcomed his suggestion with a nod of approval. Besides serving comfort food we keep returning to, the restaurant is also memorable—it was our very first dine-out together last year.

Since the menu doesn’t offer a wide range of options, it’s easy to play favorites. As of now, we’ve declared three mains as our go-to comfort dishes. See the pictures below to help you imagine the flavors more vividly:

1. Claypot Siram Telur Matang (Claypot Rice with Poured Cooked Egg)

This dish might not be for everyone, but if you love it, you really love it. Claypot Popo also offers a slightly different version with a raw egg instead of a cooked one. As much as I’d like to try it, my mom has always warned me to steer clear of raw eggs (especially the non-omega-3-enriched kind), so I’ve been playing it safe.

2. Bakso Goreng (Fried Meatballs)

For me, Claypot Popo wouldn’t be the same without their delicious fried meatballs. Paired with any main, they add the perfect savory touch to the meal.

3. Claypot Misua Tahu Telur Asin (Claypot Misua with Tofu and Salted Egg)

When I’m in the mood for a bowl of classic misua, this is my go-to. The tofu and salted egg make the dish taste rich and satisfying—niiiiice.

Bonus Menu - Claypot Misua Goreng (Claypot Fried Misua Noodles)

Fried misua noodles might not be my absolute favorite, but if you’re craving them, you know where to go.
