Propaganda I Fall For: Cute Hauls and Vitamin D

A new month means a new page to restart our expense records—don’t you agree, my bookkeeping friends? With that kind of fresh start, my urge to shop is usually strongest during those single-digit dates. I believe that cute things around the world are also aware of the calendar date, since they always strike such an inviting pose during the transition to a new month (I see right through you, you cute baguette bag with two little pockets!).

However, you must know that I’ve also been very conscious about what I buy and choose to keep. Social media has now turned into a place where many seem to promote consumerism, though not deliberately. While that lifestyle has its positive side for the economy, I don’t think it’s what I want to adopt for myself in the long run. I believe buying just the right amount of things is so much better for my peace of mind.

With that said, I may have welcomed July with a few packages in front of my door, but those necessities just happen to be (mostly) cute! Here is the list of my recent haul, as proof:

Two aesthetic-looking hair clips. I used to wear a hair band when I did my makeup and skincare at home. Sadly, it broke in two last week (apparently my hair thought it was a wishbone). Instead of buying a new one, I decided to try hair clips this time. Lucky me to find such aesthetic-looking hair clips at great prices!

Oatside mixed cereal bars. In the name of living more healthily, I’ve been looking for some healthier snack options lately. It’s been quite a challenge, obviously, since I get easily attracted to the charm of sweet goodies (I almost—almost—impulsively bought a chocolate bar and 250 grams of Lotus Biscoff—so much for healthy living).

Earlier this week, during my monthly hunt on Shopee, these mixed cereal bars from Oatside caught my eye, so I bought them. Upon receiving the package, I judged them by their packaging and instantly liked them! I haven’t actually tried them yet though, so let’s see.

Mr. Muscle’s spray bathroom cleaner. I didn’t take a picture of this bathroom cleaner because it doesn’t look that cute, but trust me when I say it does its job wonderfully!

Fun fact: It’s actually my second time purchasing Mr. Muscle’s bathroom cleaner. Even though I still have to put in some muscle to clean the bathroom floor, this spray cleaner has been quite an amazing supporter. I’m no Mrs. Muscle, but I’ve managed to keep my floor clean so far, and I’m proud!

A phone charger’s cable protector. I bought this really cute Patrick Star cable protector for my phone charger, and I can’t be more excited every time I need to charge my phone!

It’s too bad that Patrick only fits on my Samsung charger and not my iPhone charger.

California Gold Nutrition Vitamin D3 + K2. Propaganda I fell for: consuming vitamins is just paying for very expensive urine. That’s why I used to refuse it every time my mom repeatedly screamed, “DRINK YOUR VITAMIN D AND FISH OIL! I’ll say it again: DrInK yOuR vitAMin D and FiSh oiL!” She would later add, “It’s good for your body! We need as much vitamin D as we can get! LONG LIVE, VITAMIN D!!!”

Okay, the last part was a bit exaggerated, but you get my point.

Propaganda I refused to fall for: all my mom’s scientific “facts” because she lives by whatever Google tells her.

So, what did change, you might ask?

Earlier this year, I caught a cold twice within a relatively short period. The first time it happened was because I worked overtime on a few weekends. A month after that, I got just a bit drenched and the same cold came again.

It kind of worried me, since my body used to be fine with working overtime all the time. When I told my mom about it, she (obviously) claimed that I lacked vitamin D. She also lectured me about its importance for our immune system and calcium absorption. After some consideration (and also because I realized that going to the office early means I don’t get enough sunlight), I bought this vitamin from my cousin in Singapore.

So, propaganda I’m now trying to fall for: taking Vitamin D3 + K2 and fish oil at least once a week—starting today.

P.S. Neither my mom nor I are vitamin experts. If you’re thinking about taking one too, I suggest consulting a qualified healthcare professional first.

Note: If you make a purchase through the links, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products I’ve personally tried and liked. Thank you so much!
