Goodbye, Cake Face: The Cushion Hack That Changed Everything

“How do people achieve that flawless makeup look???” I used to wonder in awe.

A little background info: my go-to makeup look has almost always been the no-makeup makeup one. Stunning, full-glam makeup—no matter how gorgeous—just doesn’t really suit my face. I feel like my features are best enhanced by thin layers of product. (Or maybe it’s just a skill issue. If makeup technique were an elevator, I would still be stuck on the ground floor.)

But skill or no skill, I still didn’t think it was normal for my makeup to get cakey after just a few hours. I mean… how?! I wasn’t even using foundation—just a reasonable amount of cushion and even less concealer!

Eventually, I was ready to accept my fate. “I’m no Haley Kim, nor am I Hailey Bieber,” became my makeup motto. Ending up with a cakey base was perhaps my destiny (or so I sadly assumed).

But everything changed when Haley Kim posted a cushion hack on Instagram. My personal makeup guru (who I don’t actually know in real life) dropped a game-changing lesson, and my makeup hasn’t been the same ever since.

Who knew the secret to long-lasting cushion is using only the small remaining amount on your makeup puff? This is how my makeup looked last Sunday.

And it stayed flawless. For hours.

P.S. I hadn’t done my hair in this photo, so please ignore the limpness.

So yes, this is one makeup hack I can fully vouch for. Goodbye, cakey makeup weekends—I’ll save cakes strictly for dessert from now on.
