Gone with the Bus: The Tale of My Lost Keychain

Just a few months into dating, my boyfriend noticed that I have this… weird attachment to the things I own. They wouldn’t even be considered that valuable to most people—but if it’s my bus card that I use every day, you won’t find me replacing it even when it’s chipped all over; or if it’s the keychain on my everyday bag, I’ll still cherish it deeply even if it’s dirty and has gone through an awful toilet incident once.

With that said, I have to admit that what happened last night broke my heart to pieces: I lost my fluffy Emma keychain during my bus ride home. I don’t even know when exactly it fell off my backpack—I only realized it when I arrived at the destination station and was about to take off my glasses.

I ran back to the bus to search for her. Four strangers kindly helped me look around, but there was no sign of Emma anywhere. Losing hope, I got off at the next stop, called my boyfriend, and boarded another bus back to my actual station.

(Just so you know, I also didn’t find it at the destination station—or on the street below. Who knows when it fell off.)

Well, I don’t mean to defend myself for this negligence, but to be fair, the bus was very crowded yesterday. Two passengers even almost got into a fight, so I wasn’t exactly paying attention to my belongings. And that cost me my now-favorite keychain ever: my pink, fluffy Emma keychain.

Let this post be a gentle reminder to be more careful next time. My Emma keychain will forever be missed. I just hope a kind stranger found her and is taking good care of her.
