Loch Ness or Dinosaur? My Crochet Keychain Mystery

My boyfriend loves a good old dinosaur.

As a crocheter wannabe, I naturally saw this as a challenge. I wanted to make something cute for him—and thanks to this tutorial video, I successfully made my first amigurumi keychain in the shape of a dinosaur!

Much to my surprise, making an amigurumi keychain turned out to be quite a challenge. Despite its small size, it definitely wasn’t easier than any of my previous projects.

In fact, I found it a little harder.

Why? It was so tiny that counting my stitches felt nearly impossible. There’s also a pattern called “increase” and “decrease” in crochet. Making an increase—basically a double single crochet in the same stitch—was something I had already gotten used to in my earlier projects. But the decrease? That was a whole different story.

Since it’s meant to reduce the stitch count in a row, doing it on such a small project was quite tricky. And because of that, my dino keychain ended up a little bald in the back. (It also became faceless because I hadn’t bought plastic eyes yet.)

But still, I was so proud of how it turned out. For a first-timer in amigurumi, I considered this quite a success. My dino was certainly a dino.

My boyfriend, however, didn’t quite agree. He liked it, but he thought it looked more like a Loch Ness monster. His mom shared the same opinion.

To settle the matter, he threw the dispute to the public’s hands by making a poll on his Instagram story.

And I was wide-eyed by how… wild the guesses were.

Some people were rational enough to vote for “dinosaur.”

Some decided to be mystical and chose “Loch Ness.”

His sister, however, said it was neither—it was a turtle.

A friend of his called it freaking boiled peanuts. (I was like, “Whattt?!!”)

His coworker admitted that his kid blurted out, “Kambing!” (that’s “goat” in English) upon seeing it. Then the kid changed his mind and said, “Dinosaur!” (Good call, kid.) In conclusion: it was a kambingsaurus.

After all the drama, “Loch Ness” still won the poll. But I remain skeptical of the public opinion.

So tell me—what do you think? What does this keychain look like to you?
