Yesterday Sucked. Here’s What I Did About It
I had a really bad day yesterday. Instead of victimizing myself and thinking that everyone else was the problem except me, I took a deep breath and reflected. It was just a bad day—nothing more. There are good ones ahead. Other people are allowed to have bad days too, so their one action toward me shouldn’t be something I build a fort around.
I won’t lie—it still drained me. Trying to be positive, while helpful, didn’t erase the fact that a bad day is still a bad day. What helped me was the list below. While it didn’t magically cure my mood, it helped a lot.
- Talking to my loved ones. I shared the day’s antics with my boyfriend last night after work. He helped me sort out my feelings by listening and offering feedback when necessary. After I poured everything out, he cracked a joke and made me laugh. It felt nice to open up about a bad day without feeling judged.
- Cleaning my room. I admit, the idea of cleaning my room didn’t sound appealing last night. I felt drained—all I wanted to do was lie on my bed and do nothing. But seeing how messy my room was, I forced myself to clean both my bedroom and bathroom. It turned out to be so therapeutic! I guess my body really did release endorphins while I cleaned, which helped relieve the day’s stress. I also realized that a clean room truly helps me relax.
- Listening to my favorite music. I listened to NIKI’s Nicole album in order last night, and it brought back good memories from the past. Being reminded of how good things can be helped me get through the hard moments. I eventually felt calm.
- Getting a good rest. I definitely felt a lot better after I slept. It helped me regain perspective and see the bad day through a different lens.
I hope this list helps you too. Let me know if you have anything to add—who knows, maybe someone else might need it someday!
