Finding Gems: My Favorite Content Creators Across Blogs, YouTube, and Podcasts

As someone who does content creation as a hobby, it’s natural that I’m drawn to the posts of fellow—albeit more professional—content creators. My interests have spread widely, from blogs to podcasts. So if there’s one glorious aspect of this age of social media that’s rarely talked about, it’s how entertainment can be found in all sorts of formats. Below are some content creators whose posts I regularly enjoy:

Blog

Cup of Jo. It’s impossible to have a lifestyle blog of my own without being familiar with the paragon of lifestyle blogs. With a personal touch in her writing that deeply resonates, Joanna Goddard—Cup of Jo’s founder—has garnered a devoted audience. Covering a wide range of topics (such as fashion, beauty, design, relationships, travel—you name it), this blog has successfully grown a positive community around it. I can only wish my blog could be like that one day.

Hyperbole and a Half. I found Allie Brosh’s old blog by chance two years ago while browsing the internet, and my life has never been the same since. Hyperbole and a Half is a comic-style personal blog with a humorous approach that feels deeply personal and grounded. I love the authenticity in Allie’s writing, so even though the blog hasn’t been updated in almost five years, I often find myself going back to it.

Vlog

Sydney Serena. If I had to choose someone who never fails to inspire me to romanticize my life, it would be Sydney Serena and her YouTube channel. I don’t know what it is about her minimalist editing style that makes me constantly look forward to a new post, but her videos are my comfort viewing. My favorites are her daily vlogs and Alone but Not Lonely series. I’ve rewatched them a thousand times already.

Julia Huynh. If I feel like watching a soothing travel vlog, I will opt for Julia Huynh’s channel. Her positive energy is unmatched! It seems to radiate through the screen (you’ll know what I mean if you’ve watched her vlogs), and I can feel what a fun friend she is. Since Julia’s vlogs are usually quite long, I like to watch them while doing something fun on my own, like painting my nails.

Podcast

Trying Not to Care. I used to think that I wasn’t a big podcast person, but when I started to enjoy long walks two years ago, I found myself immersed in Ashley Corbo’s podcast called Trying Not to Care. Listening to it creates a special vibe. The podcast also reminds me to care less about what others think, which is an important lesson.

The Wizard Liz. Who hasn’t heard of the Wizard Liz? She’s a well-known internet guru focused on empowerment and self-development. I love how she taps into so many interesting topics for us. Listening to her podcast definitely feels like joining a self-help conversation.

In the content creation market, I wouldn’t say I’m in their league—I still have a lot to learn from them—but I’m glad to have discovered each of them at the right time. If you know any other content creators similar to those on my list, please let me know! I’m always looking for a new source of entertainment.
