Dear Diary, I Talked to a Robot Again…

Artificial Intelligence (or AI, if we’re feeling casual) has been all over our lives lately. Want to summarize your email? Gemini has got your back. Need to play the next song on your Spotify without touching your phone screen? Siri and Alexa are ready to help. Want to remove the passersby behind the cutest selfie you’ve ever taken? Just like ChatGPT always says: “Just say the word.”

It has become more like Aladdin’s Genie than the Genie himself.

AI is everywhere. It’s impossible to escape it because, like it or not, we’re living with it. Have you ever wondered how social media seems to know exactly what kind of content you like or how it’s able to recognize someone in your photo album? It’s AI working behind the scenes. And we, like it or not, are here for it.

While the advancement of AI can be dangerous if not properly used (like editing people’s faces without their consent), AI can be a sort of friend when you’re bored and don’t know what to do. Here are some things that I’ve done with ChatGPT in my spare time, if you’re looking for new ideas:

I asked ChatGPT to tell me the meaning of my full name. Based on its analysis, my name Karina is linked to Carina in Latin and Italian, which means “beloved”, “dear”, or “precious”. In Scandinavian, Slavic, Greek, and Germanic contexts, my name is considered another form of Katherine, which means “pure”, “clear”, or “chaste”.

ChatGPT also told me that my last name likely has Germanic roots, which can be interpreted as “complete”, “entire”, or “universal”. If the two are combined, it can loosely mean “beloved and pure within the whole (or universe)” or “a dear, innocent soul connected to the universe”.

That’s beautiful, even if I’m almost sure that my parents named me without that significance in mind.

I let ChatGPT pick what to do, and it asked me to write a poem together. Here's how our poem turned out:

ChatGPT:
Beneath the silver moon’s soft glare,
the night unfolds without a care.

Me:
I lay my heart for you so bare,
in what turns out to be a 'truth or dare'.

ChatGPT:
The stars lean close, they seem aware,
whispering secrets through the air.

Me:
I see them hiding behind the chair,
but am I the only one who cares?

ChatGPT:
The silence thick, a quiet snare,
pulls me deeper into the lair.

Me:
Between a dance and dresses with flair,
I see it glow beneath the stares.

ChatGPT:
A hidden truth, a secret rare,
lingers softly in the midnight air.

Me:
Aware of what's not and what's fair,
In love, war, poetry, and affair.

Well, I’m quite proud of our teamwork. Here’s to a coalition of human and AI, I guess.

I asked ChatGPT to review my daily calorie intake. After telling it some facts about me, it concluded that my daily calorie intake is already quite balanced, with a slight surplus or deficit (around 5–100 kcal). Nothing significant. Good to know.

I asked ChatGPT to do something fun together. It gave me a sentence and asked me to continue it. Here's what we came up with:

ChatGPT: On a quiet Tuesday, a talking squirrel showed up at my doorstep holding a tiny briefcase. Me: It's a new representative from a multi-level marketing company, promoting its new products. ChatGPT: I politely declined, but he winked and said, "Wait till you see what we’re launching next—acorn-based energy drinks!"

I asked ChatGPT about its opinion on this blog. It thought that Rolife Coaster has a really genuine and heartfelt vibe. It also said that my writing feels personal and relatable, like I'm inviting readers into my world with warmth and authenticity, while the way I mix lifestyle, food, culture, and personal reflections makes it feel varied but cohesive.

What a way to make a girl blush. (This is me acting coy, in case you couldn't tell.)

So, what do you think? Is there anything creative you like to do with AI?
