What the Rain Washed Away

Last night, my sister broke up with her boyfriend. It was one of the first things I heard this morning, and for some reason, it made me really sad.

I’d met the guy a few times before—he was a little shy, but definitely a nice one. Throughout their relationship, the two of them seemed to fit so well. They liked the same things, shared the same goals, and even had a similar sense of humor. My mom and I used to joke that they were a match made in heaven.

But some things aren’t always as good as they seem, are they? Even if they looked perfect on paper, my sister and her boyfriend had a significant issue they couldn’t work through. How unfortunate.

When I read her message this morning, I cried a little. I know both of them—they’re genuinely good people. It’s just a shame they couldn’t get past the difference. But as the old saying goes, some people only stay in your life for a season to teach you something wonderful.

In the end, life must go on. I wish both of them the best.

As I walked to the bus stop this morning, I noticed the street was wet—there must’ve been a heavy downpour a few hours earlier. I thought of my sister and how this felt like such a main-character moment in her life. Sadly, it was a sad one—heartbreak greeted by rain.
