Little Discoveries from a Quietly Eventful Few Weeks

If Rolife Coaster embodies the beauty of life’s ups and downs, then these past few weeks of my life have perfectly captured that notion. To put it simply: I’ve been discovering so many random things! And my favorite way to process them is, obviously, by writing about them. So here they go:

The existence of mystery scoop orders on TikTok. I didn’t know that mystery scoop orders were a thing until I stumbled upon one on TikTok. Obviously, I’m not interested in ordering one for myself, but watching the preparation videos is just so satisfying that my FYP is now full of them. My favorite (if only virtually) is definitely ReRe Gift—the shop has such a cute, pinkish aesthetic.

Peace in turning off WhatsApp’s read receipts. As someone who isn’t big on changes, I toyed with the idea of turning off my WhatsApp read receipts for months. I wanted to do it so badly, but letting go of the blue checkmark was hard!

After feeling truly overwhelmed (and a little annoyed) by the number of messages I didn’t want to reply to right away, I finally turned them off. And I’ve found peace ever since. The world suddenly feels blissful and serene.

(Here’s to the most beautiful gray checkmark logo in internet history. Sincerely, someone who can’t stand unread notifications but also doesn’t want to respond too quickly.)

Abercrombie & Fitch is coming to Indonesia! I found out about it when I accidentally passed the brand board in front of the soon-to-open location at Grand Indonesia mall last week. I can’t wait to see the collection in person after only admiring their clothes on my favorite YouTubers’ videos.

The importance of being grateful. Honesty can be harsh sometimes, so I hope you can bear with me as I tell you something not-so-good about myself. Recently, I found out that someone I knew got promoted. I don’t usually get upset when others achieve something I haven’t, but this time felt different.

I know this may sound arrogant, but in my head, I felt capable of that promotion too. I had even helped my superior review the recently promoted employee’s work a few times before. My ego began to whisper that if I didn’t get promoted by the new year, maybe I should just quit.

That thought stopped me in my tracks.

“What the heck?” I asked myself. “You have a stable, well-paying job with a good manager, kind coworkers, and a healthy work-life balance. So what if your promotion hasn’t come yet? Your solution is to… quit?”

I went quiet. The words echoes back at me, and I realized how self-centered I had sounded.

If this experience reminded me of anything, it’s that I’m human—and humans compare. Everyone has a different timeline. We’ll each reach our milestones when God deems us ready.

I shouldn’t let my ego make a fool out of me. I should be more grateful for what I already have. And maybe gratitude shouldn't begin only when we achieve something greater—it should start early, from the beauty of our present.
