When Sewing Meets Crocheting: My First Crossover Project

So, against all odds, I finally did it… I finally hand-sewed a lining to my crochet tote bag to secure the base.

If you look closely, you might notice that my stitches aren’t that tidy. Regardless of the outcome, I’m still so, so proud of how my bag turned out! It was my first time ever learning how to sew, after all. A little (or much) unevenness would’ve been expected.

My current verdict: sewing is… tricky. I won’t say it’s so hard that it’s impossible to do, but it’s definitely quite a challenge. In crocheting, all I have to do is pay close attention to the tutorial and follow it like my project depends on it. But with sewing, it’s a different case. I’m not sure whether it’s a widely accepted fact, but I find sewing more bearable when I don’t follow a tutorial video from start to finish.

Here’s what I did last night: after learning the basics of sewing from this video and how to make a lining for a crochet bag from this one, I just got creative. I put my phone aside and just sewed however I thought would fasten the lining to my bag.

Well, my bag turned out just fine, so I guess it was a good call. I just don’t think I like sewing that much. You probably won’t find me sewing again—unless it’s to make a lining for my future bags.
