10 Songs That Feel Like Home

In terms of art, I think I’m a little old-school. I find comfort in stories I rewatch all the time—like Friends, Grease, and The Parent Trap, to name a few. Both of my blogs feel more like something you would find in the late 2000s or early 2010s—old-fashioned and not overly polished. If we’re talking about music, I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan—but in my mind, her catalog belongs in a category of its own, separate from every other artist.

(She’s the Taylor Swift. Her body of work feels more coherent when I don’t mix it with anyone else on a playlist… if you know what I mean. I’m serious about her, y’all.)

But apart from an imaginary song locker with a “TayTay” label on it, I actually love quite a lot of musicians from around the world. I grew up with ABBA. My dad is a huge fan of The Beatles. My mom loves the Gibb brothers from Bee Gees. You can imagine the songs shuffling through my household.

It’s been a firework of genres… with a little bit of disco thrown in sometimes.

So if I had to list my top 10 songs of all time, I would say this with confidence (in no particular order except for number one, because it remains superior):

Best song of all time. Listening to it always transports me to an image of me and my future spouse in a kitchen on a Sunday morning, making breakfast together.

It sounds so serene and peaceful. An anthem for romanticizing life.

The lyrics are so simple, yet the melody echoes like a calming heartbeat beneath sunlight. So ethereal. I might be a little biased because I first discovered it through The Parent Trap, one of my favorite movies ever.

So romantic. What more can I say?

I actually prefer the MTV Unplugged version to the original recording, but both versions have the same fantastic buildup that feels incredibly satisfying.

Don’t hate me for this, but I first discovered this song through Glee, and I love the cover version even more. Aside from the catchy rhythm, the message it conveys is timeless.

In my opinion, this is one of the most positive songs ever written. A second anthem for romanticizing life.

I think this might be the second most pop song on the list. It’s so easy to listen to—wistful, yet relatable.

Well, here’s another song I discovered through Glee. I love the original version, but the Glee cover remains superior in my ears.

This song feels old somehow, yet timeless. Similar to How Deep Is Your Love by Bee Gees, listening to it makes me imagine a perfect Sunday morning with the love of my life.
