Confessions of a Professional Hyperfixator

I think I’ve come far enough to admit that I have a phase for everything. Seriously.

I didn’t want to admit it at first because I found it a little embarrassing to hyperfixate on things… but I actually do.

I’m now shameless enough to say, “Yep. I do.”

When I’m crazy about reading, I’ll read nonstop like an obsessed person. There was a time when I finished over a hundred books in a year—what a time to be an avid reader. Ah.

Blog-wise, do you remember the months when I wore myself out trying to post every single day? Thank God I eventually got myself back on track, or you would only be here to wipe the dust off this blog.

There was also a phase when my life revolved around working, crocheting, and sleeping. I miss crocheting so much, but at the same time… I don’t. Can anyone relate?!

And now…

I’m currently hyperfixating on Chinese dramas.

(Yes, you can judge me all you want. But Zhang Linghe is the one who got me into this, so if you’re looking for someone to blame, just blame him.)

My C-drama roadmap so far, post-Pursuit of Jade

A Love So Beautiful (rewatch). As a (self-proclaimed) grown-up, I wasn’t sure I would still enjoy a high-school romance at first. I thought I had outgrown that phase after college.

Imagine my surprise when I ended up loving it just as much as I did a long, long time ago. What a light, adorable show with such a fast pace.

Ultimate trope: cold male lead × bubbly female lead.

Hidden Love. Since I had found my way back to cute coming-of-age romances (okay, writing that sounds a little embarrassing, but it is what it is), I decided to watch a C-drama my mom had been recommending for quite a while.

Yes, even my mom, who’s in her late fifties, loves a sweet romance like Hidden Love. No wonder I became completely obsessed with it during my vacation in Penang

Ultimate trope: brother’s best friend to lovers.

Go Ahead. Compared to the first two C-dramas, Go Ahead is much less romance-heavy and far more family-oriented. It actually reminded me of the Korean hit Reply 1988, only with less of Reply 1988‘s “Who’s the husband?” mystery and more of coming-of-age family story.

At first, I didn’t think I liked it that much. And yet…

I finished it in just a few days. All 40 episodes.

(I have a job, guys. I just have an alarming level of commitment.)

It was heartwarming, funny, and incredibly satisfying. Oh, and I also met a C-drama mother character I despised with all my heart.

Chen Ting… I’ve got my eyes on you. Beware.

Ultimate trope: found family.

And now… I’m planning to start another C-drama tonight. I’m so hyperfixated on watching shows right now.

Help!
