Getting Insured and Getting Healthier: My Small Lifestyle Reset
Earlier this month, I did something that made me feel very much like an adult: I signed up for private health insurance. I had actually considered signing up for months, but given how much money it would cost annually, I was a bit hesitant.
However, everything changed when I attended a prayer group one Wednesday evening. Upon learning that two of my friends had gotten ill at such a young age, I reevaluated my perspective then and there. Why should I hesitate? Health is wealth. We can't take it for granted just because we're young.
That night, I contacted my mom's insurance agent and asked him to prepare a proposal for me. He sent it the next day, and we finalized the deal shortly after.
When I told my mom about it, she reminded me that—even though I'm protected—I should never stop taking care of my body. In the spirit of wanting to achieve a consistently healthier lifestyle, I decided to start small. Since I'd been careless about my breakfast habits these past few months (how I used to pack such healthy breakfasts is beyond me!), I decided to start there. I bought an electric egg boiler, a pack of omega eggs, and fruit. Here's what I had for breakfast this week:
Monday —
Since the boiler was still on the way, I bought a cup of mango yogurt to eat with the bagelen (sweet dried bread) my mom had given to me.
Tuesday —
Finally! The boiler was here!
I bought a pack of omega eggs from Alfamart and even got two free plates with my purchase.
In the morning, I started using the boiler. It was pretty simple: I poured water into the plastic cup provided, emptied it into the bottom of the boiler, laid the egg on the tray, closed the lid, plugged the cable into the socket, and turned on the boiler.
I left it for around 8 to 8.5 minutes.
My boiled egg looked perfect!
With a banana, a mangosteen, and a snakefruit, I felt so proud of my breakfast that day.
P.S. It didn't really fill me, though. An hour or so before lunchtime, I ate another banana I'd brought just in case. Glad I'd planned ahead.
Wednesday —
Eh... There was an accident.
My egg was fine after boiling, but I think I knocked it on the way to the office. It turned out like this...
It was fine. I could still eat it—along with the banana and bagelen.
P.S. Again, I ate another banana that I'd brought about an hour before lunch.
Thursday —
On Thursday, I learned to be more careful on my way to the office, since I brought two eggs, a banana, and my last bagelen of the week.
Friday —
Although this picture shows an egg, two bananas, and an orange, I didn't finish one of the bananas because a colleague shared a random traditional snack. I ate it and felt oh-so-full.
So, those were my breakfasts for the week. I'm thinking of something more exciting (but still healthy) to bring, but I still have no idea what. If you have interesting breakfast ideas, please let me know—I could really use them!
