Crochet Progress Report: Neater, Prettier, Less Petals in Chaos

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’ve finally, finally made actual (and visible) progress in this crocheting era!

After a few days of not picking up my beautiful baby yarn, I was determined to practice another round last Wednesday. I initially wanted to make an amigurumi keychain or a simple pouch for beginners, but I changed my mind at the last minute. I figured I should focus on mastering the sunflower first (or at least make another one to refresh my memory).

Well, the decision was so not disappointing! In fact, it reignited my desire to learn more about crochet.

I had trouble at first starting the magic ring, but it ended up looking neater than ever (by my standards—please don’t judge):

I didn’t know what to call it—since the yarn color I chose this time wasn’t sunflower-approved—but here’s how my lilac flower turned out:

It was much neater than my last attempt, with no extra, unexpected petals. I’ve now discovered the power of counting every stitch—it really helped during the process.

Because I’m a proud crochet-flower mama, here’s a side-by-side comparison of my first and second attempts:

What a fun progression.
