The First Frost Gave Me Another TV Series Hangover
So, three days ago, I finally finished The First Frost.
What started as uncertainty over whether the drama would be too heavy for me turned out to be one of the best series I’ve ever watched. (Yes. Ever.)
And now I can officially vouch for what everyone has been saying. The biggest understatement of the century would be calling the male lead, Sang Yan, a green flag.
He’s not.
He’s the whole evergreen forest who loves the female lead, Wen Yifan, with all his heart.
He’s so good that he almost feels too fictional… to be fictional. But still… Damn. I feel like crying my heart out.
While the trauma portrayed in this show is undeniably heavy, there are plenty of funny moments to balance it out. Trust me, you’ll get some really good laughs too.
And let’s talk about the angst…
Oh, the angst. Oh, how giddy I was watching this slow-burn romance… slowly burn. Literally.
I was giggling in my room the whole time because I wasn’t myself while watching this show. I was a kid who had just been handed a magical trip to Disneyland. And the Mickey Mouse to my Minnie was Bai Jingting’s Sang Yan.
Oh, Sang Yan…
However, just as I was about to start the last three episodes, reality kicked in.
I felt… empty.
I wasn’t ready to move on because this Sang brother had become so precious to me, and I just couldn’t stop craving more. That’s also when I realized I was experiencing another post-series hangover… just like the one I had after watching Pursuit of Jade. (Though this time I was smarter and avoided all the behind-the-scenes clips, or I would’ve stayed in this sea of despair for much, much longer.)
Oh, Sang Yan.
Oh, Yifan.
I would love to rewatch your story… right about now.
