December Plates & Festive Nights: Another Short Jakarta Guide
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of December. If you know me in real life (as opposed to only digitally via this blog), you’ll see me taking pictures of every corner decorated for Christmas. (I’m always like, “Ho ho ho! Bring out all the decor! And by all, I mean ALL!!!”) While some of my friends are irritated by how often it rains this month, I romanticize it. I just adore the vibes so, so much.
In the name of celebrating Christmas, I always make time for a couple of wonderful feasts with my friends. To give you a feel of the vibes, here’s a list of where I dined to celebrate Christmas this year:
Last week, my colleagues and I went here for an early Christmas lunch. I ordered the 200-gram tenderloin steak with rosemary baby potatoes, creamed spinach, and wild mushroom sauce. A few of us also shared a plate of onion rings, Caesar salad, and a serving of tiramisu.
The verdict? Not my favorite steak ever (I’m not actually a big tenderloin fan), but I loved everything else. The vibes, the decorations, the place—everything fit perfectly with my taste.
Also, not my food, but so cute!
If you remember, I visited Pison, Thamrin last Christmas with a small group of workmates. This year, I came back with two of my friends. I ordered the Pappardelle Alfredo (because I remembered how much I loved it back then) and a glass of lychee iced tea.
The place is just so cozy. I can absolutely see myself coming back for another nice dinner someday.
I adore my college friends—they’re one of the circles I hope to keep in my life forever. This year, I got to celebrate Christmas with them again at a café called Tiembi, located in Meruya, West Jakarta.
It was our first time trying the place. I ordered the kwetiau siram and a glass of iced tea. We also shared a small plate of French fries and something called the Monkies Platter, which consisted of combro (a savory snack made from grated cassava filled with a fermented soy product—locally known as oncom), croquettes, tahu aci (tofu mixed with tapioca flour), and fried cassava.
Such a cute place.

So, you might be wondering: where did I celebrate Christmas on the actual day?
Stay tuned. I’ll let you in on that little secret soon.
In the meantime, Merry, merry Christmas, everyone! I hope this season brings you warmth, joy, and peace, wherever you are.
